The wines of Matthieu Cosse

The old style “Black wine of Cahors” was a classic style full of firm malbec tannins that needed years to soften. Matthieu Cosse is causing quite a stir in the region winning awards and prizes for his range of wines which are made in a more modern approachable style.
He makes his wines using biodynamic winemaking principles. This involves planning the vineyard activities of planting, pruning and picking according to the rhythms of nature : the cycles of the moon and stars, the time of year and time of day, favouring the growth and health, at all times, of leaves, roots, flowers and fruit. Healthier vines are produced and ultimately better wines are the result.

Solis 2001

An upfront fruit-bomb of a wine. A modern take on Cahors with full emphasis on fruit character and a wine for early drinking and enjoyment. Great extraction and colour leading to an intoxicating nose and lingering pallet, full of intriguing black fruit character.

Malbec 85% Merlot 12% and Tannat 3%
Yield 45 hl / ha

Le Petit Sid 2001

A step up from Solis with more Merlot in the blend and 14 months ageing in barriques.
A wine for now but one which will certainly keep and improve for years to come.

Malbec 75% Merlot 20% and Tannat 5%

Le Sid 2001

A crusader of a wine with powerful fruit, amazing extraction of flavours and a long lingering finish. The low yield and new-oak treatment give the malbec a whole new dimension , the flagship wine from this property.

Malbec 90% Merlot 7% and Tannat 3%
18 - 22 months ageing in new barriques.
Yield 30 hl / ha
